What Lies Beneath
A New Offering
Hello Friends,
It is my privilege to offer a new suite of paintings for your acquisition. They are part of the What Lies Beneath series that has developed over the past year. These salt paintings are Payne's Grey-colored abstraction, whose images coalesce from their foundational words and sketched imagery. The echoes of these underpinnings are felt in the resolved image and point towards the broader themes of concealment and denial that are prevalent in our culture at large, and in ourselves. They ask you to reflect on broad knowledge bases and lived experience, while inviting you to pause in the stillpoint and have a moment of honest considered reflection about what comprises the foundation of your life.
*Please note that because this paper is mould-made the edges are not precise 90°lines. The images are unedited, in this regard, so that you can see all of the details along the borders.

A Note on Pricing:
When asked how long it takes me to do I painting I respond, "It has taken my whole life." A life filled with mark-making and observation has led to these one-take paintings that resolve in unexpected ways. That being said it is complicated to figure out the monetary value of the work, as the math of an hourly rate does not compute. Students (or those still paying their student loans) are offered the paintings at a reduced rate. Feel free to pay the student rate with no guilt. The market rate is what the work would be priced at typically. The patron rate is for those that want to support the artist more extensively, and it goes directly toward offsetting the student rate. By buying paintings at the patron rate you are facilitating more people having access to original artwork. All of the paintings in this offering are 22”x30” with a patron rate of $1,000, a market rate of $750, and a student rate of $500. Whatever tier you find yourself in, thank you for your support.
